Need for creating facility for ayurvedic system in every district: CM

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Friday inaugurated the 8th World Ayurveda Congress and Arogya (Health) Expo here in presence of Union Minister of State for AYUSH Shripad Naik in Ahmedabad.

The Chief Minister on the occasion said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi set up a separate Ministry for AYUSH, as part of National Health Policy, having realized the growing significance of Ayurveda and Unani like systems of Medicine. Ayurveda was developed by Indian sages 5,000 years back and has answer to many queries about healthy life and total wellness, the world is searching now,’ he said.

He recalled that first Ayurveda Research Center was set up at Jamnagar in Gujarat in 1952, which has been elevated as Dhanwantary Ayurvedic University, while Gujarat set up a separate Ayurvedic Department when Gujarat State was founded in 1960. He stressed the need for creating facility for ayurvedic system in every district.

Union Minister Shripad Naik wished all success to World Ayurveda Congress, the largest of its kind across the world. He launched ‘Ayush Guru’ portal on the occasion. Kerala’s Health Minister KK Shailaja, Union Secretary for AYUSH Rajesh Kotecha, Gujarat University Vice Chancellor Himanshu Pandya also addressed the inaugural session. Prof. (Dr Nearly 24 speakers, 150 guests and 3,500 delegates from 35 countries, besides doctors, experts, ayurvedic companies representatives, teachers and students, are participating in the congress to be concluded on December 17.

The 8th edition of World Ayurveda Congress (WAC) being held at the Gujarat University Convention and Exhibition Center here is being organized by the World Ayurveda Foundation with support of Ministry of AYUSH, and the Government of Gujarat.

The theme of the congress is – ‘Strengthening the Ayurveda Ecosystem’ and the congregation brings together stakeholders in the Ayurveda sector from India and abroad. The major components of the program this year would be Policy makers Conclave, Teaching & Research Methodology workshop, UG Students orientation, NYASYA Conclave, Practitioners Capacity building workshop, Buyer Seller Meet, international delegates assembly, International medicinal plants seminar etc. The 8th WAC will hold 5 plenary sessions, 96 parallel sessions and a large number of paper presentations, complemented by a series of associated events.

This year’s World Ayurveda Congress is the largest ever as compared to the earlier World Ayurveda Congress at Kolkata, Kochi, Pune, Jaipur, Bengaluru, Bhopal and Delhi. On the agenda is also a meeting for over 150 traditional healers who will demonstrate their medical approaches that have remained relevant to health care challenges in the country.

Arogya Expo showcases the best that Ayurveda sector has to offer in products and services to the society. Leading companies from all over India will display their best in Ayurvedic innovation. Medical and Educational institutions will demonstrate their health care options for a healthy life in today’s high pressure lifestyle.
